Green Monday: Wildflower Wedding!
Written by Sara on March 29, 2010 – 9:21 am -
In an effort to be budget-friendly, my mother and I plan to grow a good-sized wildflower garden in our backyard this summer. We hope to put these wildflowers in mason jars and use these arrangements as part of our centerpieces.
While my mother and I don’t claim to be accomplished gardeners, we hope that with a lot of advice from a local greenhouse, we can honor our budget and the environment by growing our own flowers.
Do you have any green gardening tips?

LOVE the Mason jars idea! They are going to be beautiful :)
When I was a kid and picked flowers for Mason jars at home, I remember that you had to use quite a few flowers to fill those wide-mouthed jars. And wildflowers typically have skinny stems and smaller blossoms, so it might be a good idea to have some sort of “filler,” like a decorative grass or something, to stretch the flowers for more arrangements. I’m sure you and your mom are already planning ahead for this, but wanted to mention it just in case :)

Hi Sara! Great idea! If you’re planning on growing your flowers from seed, make sure annuals are well represented, since some perennials won’t flower their first year. Ask your friendly garden center expert if they’ll bloom the first year before getting your heart set on a specific flower.
Good luck!
